Oral Medicine is a specialty of dentistry concerned with the diagnosis and non-surgical management of a variety of conditions affecting the teeth, mouth, and jaws. The scope of Oral Medicine includes: • Temporomandibular disorders (TMJ Pain); often a result of teeth grinding. • headaches • Dental sleep medicine: mandibular advancement device (MAD) for sleep apnea • neuropathic pain • trigeminal neuralgia • tongue pain, canker sores (aphthous ulcers), oral lichen planus, mucous membrane pemphigoid • Oral cancer screening • candidiasis (oral thrush and other forms) • Xerostomia or dry mouth issues (e.g. Sjögren’s Syndrome) • Oral burning & Burning Mouth Syndrome • Taste problems • Halitosis (bad breath) • Using BOTOX® for treatment.
